Request a Letter of Recommendation

A letter of recommendation is a piece of advocacy. Please read who I am able to write for — and by when.

A recommendation is more than a form — it is a public argument on your behalf. For that reason, Professor Rosenberg writes on a narrow basis and only when he can speak to your work with genuine enthusiasm.

Please read the criteria below before submitting a request. Requests that fall outside these bounds cannot be honored, and it is far kinder to point you toward a member of faculty who can write for you than to write a letter that is merely lukewarm.

Part One · Eligibility

Professor Rosenberg writes LORs for undergraduate students who…

  1. have just completed their course during the most recent semester. Students from previous semesters are no longer eligible.
  2. are seeking transfer admission to an accredited college or university. Professor Rosenberg does not write character reference letters — those which accompany an employment application, and the like.
  3. have earned a final course grade of B+ or better.

A brief note

Why a B+ or better?

Because a letter of recommendation should reflect only the highest praise. Students whose course grade is below the B+ are warmly encouraged to seek out a more suitable member of faculty — someone who can write with the enthusiasm your application deserves.

Part Two

Also…

  1. Students seeking admission to a graduate degree program should contact Professor Rosenberg before proceeding.
  2. The application's deadline is one week after the official close of the semester. After that point, requests can no longer be accommodated — every letter is drafted with care, and care requires time.
